I love going to our home in Marche in August-- as you said, the towns are alive and full of activity in a way that they often aren't even in the fall or spring. And the idea that Americans are worrying about street crime in Italy? Come on. As a New Yorker who also spends time in LA, Portland, Oregon, Atlanta-- there's just no comparison. Italy is far safer than most American suburbs, much less cities.
