I was concerned about being Americans in Italy at this time. Leaving today and it was NOT a problem at all. We had a great trip but next time will definitely be getting out of the big cities.
When we were in Modena this January, we also got some questions about US politics, though not from Italians. A young couple from Austraila had strong opinions that they shared first (and fortunately, we agreed). And, a nice Ukrainian couple (who were helping us with our Italian in our first visit to our FAVORITE coffee bar in Modena), also had some comments (as you can well imagine). Our goal, in both instances, was to leave them with an impression that we were good, friendly and kind people from the US:)
Danielle, I recently heard from two Rome women bloggers that right now they think that Rome is less crowded than normal (likened it almost to Covid times). They are not getting tour bookings and were speculating that people were staying away because everyone says it will be crowded due to the Jubilee. That is different that what you stated. Just wanted your perspective. We are planning a trip to Italy in the Fall and will include Rome. Grazie.
As someone who books hotels for my clients. I would definitely not agree. I was in Rome two weeks ago and it was definitely busier than the usual March. One thing that might be possible is that the more niche tours are receiving less bookings as certain kinds of travelers are staying away because of the crowds of religious pilgrims and big bus travelers. Those estimates are currently at 70,000 people per week more than usual.

I want to hear all about it, Pam!
I want to tell you about it. Where should I write it? In the subscriber chat?
Yes!
Loved this.
Thank you!
I was feeling anxious about how we'd be perceived in Italy and this was so reassuring, thank you!
Yay I’m glad!

It’s a rapidly changing discourse every day as well!

Uh….Who was saying that?

Thanks for your perspective. Looking forward to hearing about Torino. Was there years ago and loved it.
Sylvia Minchelli and can't remember who she was talking to.
